The bootsplash has not been used per default on any Debian version (yet). But there are debian packages available.
Debian Bootsplash Themes
You are a Debian user. Everytime you boot up the system, you see long list of text messages scrolling past. After a long wait you see that beautiful graphical screen.
Now one fine day you happen to see a friend using another distribution such as SUSE (or MS Windows). Instead of the scrolling text messages you see a beautiful graphical screen, may be even with a progress bar. And you start wondering, why can't I do this in debian?
That's exactly what Debian bootsplash themes project is intented for. Here you will find a bunch of Debian packages that provide a graphical boot process for Debian GNU/Linux operating system.
Debian Etch
Requirements:
- /etc/init.d/rc from Andreas Rönnquist makes progress bar and animations work
- rc.diff is a newer version from Ted Percival. It is available as a patch. The patch was made against /etc/init.d/rc from the Debian sysv-rc (binary) package version 2.86.sd1-37 (currently in unstable). It should apply against the same package in etch (testing).
